If you're moving material around a facility, you likely want a hopper; if you're storing large volumes long-term, you want a silo.

Steel silos commonly store dry bulk materials that flow freely -- plastic pellets and resin, grain and agricultural feed, sand and aggregate, cement and other dry construction materials, and various industrial powders.
